Where to Go, What to Do - South Florida - Don't guess...Just

WHERE TO GO to eat, drink, dance, or hear music in Boynton Beach, Florida --
Restaurants, Bars, Pubs, Waterfront spots...
Just Ask Priscilla! : - )

Up until a couple years ago, I hadn’t spent much time in Boynton Beach. Then I was hired to do marketing for a firm there, and the first time I drove up Congress Avenue, I was like a kid in a candy store! “SteinMart, the Ale House, Lemongrass...Oh my! TJ Maxx, Kohls, Bonefish Grille, Oh my!”

Boynton Beach is like Delray's less-known little sister. But…little sister is coming into her own. With development happening on both the east and west sides of town, Boynton is starting to pop. The marina area around Ocean Ave has come along nicely and you have two great waterfront landmarks there…Banana Boat and Two George’s – both serving good food and good cold beer.

West of 95, you have the really nice, well-done Rennaissance Commons area. This is a large plaza area covering a couple of blocks that boasts some great bars and restaurants, some of them named below. Further west, Canyon Lakes is an up and coming area with nice space for offices and businesses of all kinds.

Living in Delray Beach, I have countless choices for dining and nightlife. But about once every 2 weeks, I find myself out and about in Boynton, and it’s a nice change of scenery. Boynton Beach has its own style, its own feel – as does every town. Enjoy your visit – and here are the places I like!

Casual Dining / Lower cost eateries

The Carolina Ale House
This is a casual, fun, bar /sports bar atmosphere with good bar food and friendly staff. It is a bit loud – not a place to go for a lunch meeting. Food is consistent and it’s a big menu with lots of choices.
365 North Congress Avenue  Boynton Beach, FL 33426  (561) 735-7848

Hurricane Alley
From the outside, this local’s favorite doesn’t look like much more than the neighborhood pub. But their menu is surprisingly more sophisticated. If you like seafood this is a good place to dine. Their salads are big and really good, and everything I’ve had there including the fish sandwich was tops. Bartenders are nice and that’s important to me.
529 East Ocean Avenue  Boynton Beach, FL 33435  (561) 364-4008

Enigma
If you want “Atlantic Avenue” food at 2/3 the price, this is the place. Unbelievably great meals – an upscale menu at very reasonable pricing. They do fish extremely well and their skirt steak (garlicky if you like it that way!) is to die for. And the flan! A couple owns and operates the place and she makes the flan herself, served on top of pound cake, with carmel drizzle and whipped cream on top. The best I’ve had in the area! Located right at the Delray-Boynton line. Sangria (white or red!) is a must-try!
2717 North Federal Highway, Delray Beach - (561) 243-6377

Boynton Café
Blink and  you’d miss it. In a little strip center. But very homey, friendly, cozy, and the food is so good. I was impressed. Diner atmosphere with diner prices but café / restaurant-quality meals. The grilled mahi mahi on top a Caesar is my usual. Great lunch spot, or breakfast.
469 West Boynton Beach Boulevard  Boynton Beach, FL 33436  (561) 752-4144

Boynton Diner
Can’t rave enough! Big portions. Everything tastes like “mom” or “grandma” made it. Pot roast, chicken pot  pie, ham and scalloped potatoes, soups, huge sandwiches, hearty breakfasts, yummy homemade desserts. Take an entrée home for dinner and it feeds 2 people. Just go! (and they cater)
500 East Woolbright Road  Boynton Beach, FL 33435  (561) 364-1819

Two Georges
I’m not going to rave about their food cause it is just okay (fine, but not great). But this is worth mentioning cause it’s on the Intracoastal waterway and sometimes you want a beer or a bite by the water’s edge, so this will fill that desire and it’s a cool place. They pour a good drink. Call on weekends to check on the Live Music.
728 Casa Loma Boulevard Boynton Beach, FL 33435  (561) 736-2717

Upscale Dining

Prime Catch
The view is worth the visit. Even if you just have a cocktail or a small bite, stop in and it will relax you looking out over Intracoastal here. The crowd is older, it’s a seniors’ favorite, but anyone would enjoy dinner here. They have a lovely room upstairs for functions (perfect for small weddings or rehearsal dinners.  Just “Ask Priscilla” to plan it for you. www.weddingsandeventsfl.com). Fish, seafood, fowl, pasta, big menu.
700 E Woolbright Rd 561-737-8822

San Remo
A lovely, upscale Italian Restaurant in Rennaissance Commons. Good food and service, nice wine selection. 1880 N. Congress Ave., Suite 190 - with seating outdoors and indoors.

Sabor Cuban & Continental Cuisine
What a wonderful restaurant this is! Owner Jamie and his wife treat you like family, and they have a 5-star chef in the kitchen~ the food is excellent. The setting is midway between casual and upscale - you could dress either way. Prices are very reasonable and the fish and skirt steak dishes are the tops! Nice BIG bar with room for a group, and 2 different private party rooms. You can always ask me to reserve a group for you - Jamie gives me a discount on groups of 10 or more. Located on the east side of Congress one block south of Boynton Beach Blvd (beside Chuck E Cheese).

Sweetwater Bar & Grill
Just LOVE the eclectic and diverse menu and everything is perfectly prepared. Cocktails are a craft at this bar as is the food. 1507 S. Federal Hwy, which is just north of Woolbright.

The Living Room
Love it! Owner Lisa makes people comfortable. There’s nothing worse than a hard bar stool or chair, especially with no back. Here you’ll sit on loveseats, sofas, and comfy living room chairs! You can truly kick back. Very good musicians / singers perform here usually Weds. thru Sat. evenings. Food is very good and there are a lot of items under $15 – the menu is a nice mix of things and very reasonably priced. A good selection of wines including International wines keeps me happy. Cozy, eclectic, and a breath of fresh air over the typical plain or even sterile bar. Service can be a bit slow, so don't be in a hurry. Come with friends and sit a while!
1700 block of Congress Ave, in the Catalina Shopping Center 3 blks south of Gateway Blvd.

I'm also going to mention THE STATION HOUSE located just north of Boynton in Lantana. I have had outstanding fish and lobster dinners there, and what a cool historic building. Nice bar, too! 233 Lantana Road (just west of Federal Hwy) (561) 547-9487

Pubs, beer, or just drinks

Hurricane Alley
This place is described above under casual eateries. It is the kind of place that you will stop in for one beer and next thing you know you’ve been there 2 hours. Fun, easygoing pub environment. Good beer selection.

Slainte’
What can I say, I’m drawn to Irish pubs. Wherever I travel in the US or Europe, if I arrive in a new city or town, almost certainly my first stop (after checking into a hotel) is the nearest Irish pub. Slainte’ doesn’t disappoint. Irish/English fare prepared right. Great beers. Lively atmosphere, nice crowd. They have a nice private party room too.
Facing Gateway Blvd. in Rennaissance Commons

Bar Louie
So the food is fine, but not great. Service can be slow. But if you go to the bar just to drink, it’s a good pitstop. Lots of big TVs, vast beer selection with lots of beers on tap. All sorts of martinis and bartenders seem knowledgeable, at least the 2 that I’ve had. Modern, sleek, trendy look to the place, just to give you a description.
In Renaissance Commons (Gateway and Congress)

Alabama Joe’s Sports Bar
For a good time and good bar food, a cold beer or a nice cocktail during any sporting event, come to this sports pub and hang out. It's out west, in Canyon Town Center – 8794 W. Boynton Beach Blvd.

Live Music

Living Room
Listed above, the Living Room is not only a nice, hip, cozy bar and café’ but they do get some good live music, pretty much Weds thru Sat eves.  As of this writing, Weds. is open mic but it is established bands and musicians that play.

Banana Boat
About once every 3 months I head up here on a Sunday afternoon cause there just ain’t many places that are fun and lively on a Sunday. Always crowded (ages 40’s and up) and they pour a good drink and serve some good grub. The reggae band achieves that “island escape” feel for me and they are quite danceable. Waterfront.
739 East Ocean Avenue, Boynton Beach, FL 33435  (561) 732-9400

You can also take in a Free Concert sponsored by the Community Redevelopment Agency.  One Friday a month thru May 21, picking up again in December. Ocean Avenue Amphitheatre -- On East Ocean Ave., between Seacrest Blvd. and NE 1st St.
